Today is Boxing Day, a holiday based on the tradition of giving gifts to the less fortunate members of society. In keeping with that spirit, what did you do in 2008 to help out those in need?
Really? Because here it seems its all about the shopping. The only story on the news yesterday was about how much people had spent at boxing day sales. Quite a feat considering only the big department stores were open yesterday... Today will be an even bigger day, and personally, i'm staying well away. Its funny how we were not so long ago being urged to save, and not go into debt. Now it seems the sentiment is "save Australia from depression, spend, spend, spend".
I'm attempting to stay at home for most of my week and a bit off, and do things constructive around here. I have my Japan trip collage that I still have to finish (even though it was over a year ago), I'd like to do some sewing, and of course, the garden.
I will have to go to the shops at some time though to get some bread enhancer, cos D got me a bread machine for Christmas! Not much of a surprise, I told him if he gets a pizza oven I wanted a bread maker. It even goes together because I made the pizza dough in the machine yesterday, then we cooked them in the wood fire pizza oven. yum yum.
I also got him a coffee subscription from Toby's Estate. So every fortnight we get sent organic coffee from somewhere around the world. No more running out of coffee for us! We just have to learn to stay on top of the milk situation.
Anyway, I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas. I was at the most frantic Christmas ever, and it was at our house! 17 people, including three kids meant that there was no end to the chaos, although sometimes I just wanted to say, "thanks for offering, but it would be a great help if you could get out of the kitchen".
Overall everyone seemed mighty impressed. D got all the seafood from work, which was nice, and meant we didn't have to line up at the fish mongers like every other person. Here is a run down of lunch:
entree:
- sushi (my mum made)
- sashimi
- oysters
Mains:
- turkey (D's mums partner made)
- smoked ocean trout (smoked in pizza oven)
- fresh prawns with lime aoli
- guiness glazed ham with pineapple relish
- assorted wood fired pizzas
- roasted carrots and beets with maple glaze
- various salads (our guests brought)
- Chrissy pudding (made by my Grandma)a
- Mince Tarts (also Grandma)
- Fruit Flans
- Mini Pavlovas
- Trifle (my sister in law made)
- Choc dipped strawberries
We had cheese and bread and nuts we didn't end up eating at all.. Plus the berryoskis, which we drank after everyone had left (we had it with sparkling mineral water, reallly really good, thanks Cat).
Tell us how you met your significant other.

I've read a couple of different answers to this one, and they have been interesting so I thought I should post my own.
D and I met at a bowling alley. In fact, we both worked there. I was a party girl, which meant I ran the kids birthday parties. It was pretty shit, as you kinda had to churn through them. There was no fun, just eat, shoes, bowl.
We were friends for a few years before we started going out. D liked me but I didn't know. We would always go for coffee and stuff, sometimes with other friends from the bowl, sometimes just us.
Anyways, our other friend H knew that D liked me, but I was unaware (he doesn't really show his feelings much).
It started when I found out that like me, he was an X-Files fan. And at the time I was about to go to this event where X-files fans all met up and watched episodes and played trivia or something. I'm sure it was to raise money, I just don't remember what.
So D and I go to Paramatta, for this event. Paramatta is absolutely horrible to drive though, because it has a bazillion one way streets. We were trying to navigate our way through, D makes a right hand turn and Kablammo! we hit another car. So thats how our relationship started. With a car crash. Luckily no one was injured (except the cars).
Obviously our friendship was growing at this point, and we were going to go to the movies. Except I was having bad period pains (as i'm know to have) and didn't think being out in public was best for me. Instead we stayed in and watched a DVD, which was The Cell (y'know, with JLo)...
As we were watching it, D put his arm around me. And that was it. I knew that he liked me. And what amazed me even more is that I felt something too. After the DVD I waked him to his (somewhat damaged) car. And we kissed.
Only a few days after that we said I love you. True. Kinda whirlwind I guess. And it hasn't changed ever since. (That was over 7 years ago now)..
Last night I found out that the most senior chef who was working at the time of the "chocolate gelato" incident used to work with D... The chef has been in the press offering to have a DNA test to prove his innocence... Personally I believe him, he is a nice guy, and wouldn't risk his reputation for something like that. Besides, the juniors usually do the deserts in a kitchen anyway....
is when you late-night message your favourite boy... to bring home chocolate!
up early to go pick up a ute... unfortunately it was raining, so we could really only move stuff that was waterproof, which was quite frustrating.
rain hitting the windows...
sitting in d's car before moving another lot of stuff... sooo many stairs...
A few loads after this we ended up getting Chinese and drinking billecart salmon on the mattress on the floor in front of the air con.
How do you travel to and from work - personal vehicle, bus, subway/train, pedal power? What does it cost you per week in gas or fares?

I used to catch the train. I could leave home at 8:10 to walk to the station and arrive around 8:25. The train took ten mins and then a five min walk to work, which meant I got there at 8:50. The train costs $3.40 for a single trip or $6.80 for a return. If I bought a weekly it was $28
Then D bought a new car and I inherited his. And I love it. Because it has been school holidays (and therefore no evil 40kmp/h school zones) I've been leaving at 8:15 and getting to work at 8:45. During school time it takes a bit longer than that.. Driving is much better, except for parking around work, which can be a nightmare and add an extra 15 mins to my trip... I don't drive much other than going to work and back, and it freakishly costs me $33 every week to fill up, no matter which fuel company or petrol price it is....
Loathe:
- work
- anxiety
- waiting for packages to arrive
- never being able to resist food, i swear i have no self control
Love:
- D, and the fact he FINALLY got his ingrown toenail to a surgeon and got it cut out. Now its all bandaged up...
- mmmm chocolate
I stole this from M-----l who swiped it from Emma.
